There is an air of confidence after the naming of the Otago women's team to compete in the South Island interprovincial tournament in Invercargill this weekend.

The return of Laura Hoskin from her golf scholarship in the United States has taken care of the No1 position and she will face the best players from the other provinces.

Hoskin qualified top in the Otago championships last weekend and won three matches on the trot to take the 2018 title.

Danielle Bailey will play at No2 while St Clair's Abigael Crawford will be at No3 after missing the Otago championship due to a clash with university examinations.

Sumin Kang is at No4 and the 13-year-old should perform well after taking Hoskin to the last green in the Otago championship final.

Former No1 Susan Greig is at No5 and she should be lethal after getting two wins at No2 against Southland two weeks ago.

The octet is completed by Annabel Evans (Otago), Joanna Booker (Millbrook) and Tracey Storer (Belleknowes) with Balmacewen's Brenda Sutherland as the team reserve.

Storer has been unbeaten in match play in recent weeks and is a dogged competitor winning several matches at the death.

With four of the top six unavailable, Otago beat Southland on the Taieri Lakes course two weeks ago.

Hoskin, Bailey, Kang and Evans come back into the playing group meaning Otago looks likely to perform well this weekend at Otatara and should account for Aorangi, Southland and Tasman.

The team will have a good chance of upsetting the strong Canterbury octet which will aid further self-belief going into the national team tournament on the Waitakiri course in Christchurch in December.
