Canterbury won the junior interprovincial title beating North Harbour by 3.5 to 2.5 in the final on the Cambridge golf course yesterday.
Canterbury was well in front throughout the final but a spirited fightback by several North Harbour juniors led to the narrow winning margin.
The Christchurch-based team was dominant throughout the event, posting six wins in the six-round event. The players have honed their matchplay skills playing in the coveted Woodward Cup in the Christchurch pennant series and showed maturity in not letting opponents back into matches.
Auckland took third place, beating Bay of Plenty yesterday, while Wellington came in fifth downing the Waikato team, winning five of the six games.
Otago had its third win with a convincing 5-1 margin over tournament debutant Taranaki.
Otago won its last three games after a slow start to finish in seventh place in the 12-team event.
Playing at No2, Jakob Bleach emerged with four wins and a half, while top under-16 player Joseph Hancock had five wins.
Newcomer Hayden Robertson, at No6, started with two losses but improved with three wins and a half in his last four outings.
