Ticket sales strong

The appetite for women’s football is continuing to dish up historic moments.

The Fifa Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand next month, is on track to be the most attended stand-alone women’s event, with 1,032,884 tickets sold already.

Ticket sales have already surpassed numbers sold for the World Cup in France in 2019.

"The future is women — and thanks to the fans for supporting what will be the greatest Fifa Women's World Cup ever," Fifa president Gianni Infantino said.

The World Cup kicks off at Eden Park on July 20, when the Football Ferns play Norway.

Dunedin will host six games for the tournament, and Switzerland has chosen Dunedin as its base.

The games include Philippines v Switzerland (July 21), Netherlands v Portugal (July 23), Japan v Costa Rica (July 26), Argentina v South Africa (July 28), Switzerland v Football Ferns (July 30) and Vietnam v Netherlands (August 1).

The World Cup trophy is touring this month and will be in Dunedin from June 22 to 25.
