Peer advice pays off for Molloy

A suggestion from a few team-mates proved golden advice for Eric Molloy.

The Irish striker netted two outstanding goals and provided plenty of energy as Southern United claimed a 4-0 win over Hamilton Wanderers at Peter Johnstone Park on Saturday.

His first goal came six minutes in, when he received a pass up the right sideline from Ross Howard before breaking towards the middle and finishing with his left foot past the keeper. It was a brilliant show of class. The second was in the similar category. He did well to control a long ball with one touch, before volleying into the back of the net just after the break.

"The second one was good but I was more impressed with the first one," Molloy said.

"One or two of the lads had said I should practise finishing coming in off the right-hand side with my left foot. So that’s what I was doing last night at training, just practising a few with my left foot, and it paid off out here today, so I was very happy with that.

"The second goal was a bit more out there, just a little flick and I managed to lob it over the keeper. But I’m delighted with the two goals and the result."

Molloy has been lively all season, although has been hampered by injury and had struggled to find his finishing touch. He was confident things were looking up now and the injury was all but behind him.

"Nearly 100%. I can see from the performance out here, I felt very confident on the field and had a lot of energy.

"I just think I’ve got to build on that from now on in. The performances have to be a lot better if we want to play against the bigger teams, if we want to get more results. But I’m confident we can do that when we’re all fit and healthy now."
