Barnsley has another New Zealand international soccer player on its books.

The All Whites' teenage striker Chris Wood has been loaned by his English Premiership club West Bromwich Albion to English Championship (first division) club Barnsley for three months.

Wood, 18, is likely to go straight into 10th-placed Barnsley's starting side for their match away to Reading on Saturday.

He has made 27 first-team appearances for West Brom, scoring three goals, but has struggled for game time since the club earned promotion to the Premier League this year.

The strapping forward came off the bench to score late in a 2-0 League Cup win at Orient in August while he also featured as a late substitute in the 1-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield five days later.

Wood, who has won 13 international caps for the All Whites, including bench appearances in all three drawn group matches at this year's World Cup.

In a remarkable record, four other members of the New Zealand World Cup squad have played for Barnsley.

Rory Fallon, Leo Bertos, David Mulligan and Jeremy Christie all had stints with the first team over the past decade.

Mulligan made 65 appearances, Fallon 52, Bertos 12 and Christie 10.
