Football: Top-six split in limbo

Poor weather caused three Soccersouth Premier League fixtures to be postponed in Dunedin at the weekend and means the top-six, bottom-four split will be delayed.

Only one game was played, with Spirit FC holding Green Island to a 1-1 draw in Invercargill.

Two of the three games which were postponed would have had no impact on the outcome of the top six.

Competition cellar-dweller University was to play top-of-the-table Caversham, and Grant Braes had a tough assignment against Roslyn Wakari. Northern is still in contention for the top six but needed a win against Dunedin Technical.

Soccersouth acting general manager Wilson James was yesterday uncertain when the matches could be rescheduled.

Complicating the matter, Dunedin Technical is scheduled to play Miramar in the Chatham Cup quarterfinal in Dunedin on July 20.

The split was to have taken place next Sunday but will be put off until all teams have played their full number of qualifying games.
