Three Otago football clubs have benefited from the success of the All Whites at last year's World Cup.

Futsal South, Grants Braes and Dunedin Technical have been awarded grants from the New Zealand Football Foundation as part of a $100,000 funding round.

Futsal South has been awarded $5000, Grants Braes $2000 and Dunedin Technical $1000.

Footballsouth general manager Bill Chisholm said he was thrilled with the grants. He said given there were seven football federations in New Zealand, it was a reasonable amount.

He hoped other clubs would be encouraged to apply when a second round of grants was handed out in April.

Futsal South development officer Mike Clark said any money his organisation received was "fantastic" and it would be a huge boost for the game in the region.

He said the money would go towards developing coaches, players and referees.

Futsal is a five-a-side indoor football game. The organisation has been running competitions for 18 months and offers programmes to develop the game from primary to adult levels.

Grants Braes junior coaching co-ordinator Michelle Moss was "over the moon" with the grant.

She said the money would go towards buying equipment and investing in the club's player academy.

Grants Braes started running an academy last week for 6 to 17-year-olds. The academy would run until February.

She said development officer Rob Mitchell did a great job running the programme and the grant was fine recognition for all his hard work.

Dunedin Technical development officer Andrew Whittaker said he was pleased to receive the grant and it would be invested at increasing the skills of players at junior and youth level.

New Zealand Football's National Talent Centre received the largest grant, of $37,550.

Some of that money would go towards giving assistance to the 280 junior and youth players who attend its programmes.

The remainder of the fund is being allocated to support individuals, families, teams, clubs, organisations, regional football federations and national talent development.

Thirty applicants nationwide received grants.
