Sigmund's regular partner in central defence, Andrew Durante, makes his return to the Phoenix after the skipper missed the club's season-opening 2-1 loss to Brisbane in Wellington last week.
Durante was away on All Whites duty as a makeshift defensive line for the Phoenix toiled away at the Cake Tin as they attempted to contain a pass-heavy Roar attack.
Since the 2010-2011 season, Durante and Sigmund have been a constant in the heart of defence for the Phoenix and the duo are widely regarded as one of the best centre back pairings in the competition.
"It's always nice to have Dura back and we've played a few games together now," Sigmund said. "We understand each other pretty well so it'll be nice to have a bit of leadership there and the talking. It's not just what he does with the ball and what have you but it's communication and that real leadership that we need as a team."
Durante will take Michael Boxall's position tomorrow as Wellington will start as rank outsiders against a Western Sydney side who enjoy fanatical support after their successful inaugural season last year where they made the grand final.
They've got more than 16,000 paid-up members, which means Parramatta Stadium will be at near capacity every time they play at home this season.
Durante's ability on the field to direct his players will come in handy tomorrow as the club continues to struggle with whoever coach Ernie Merrick deploys at right back.
Luke Adams had the gig last week and didn't make it his own and any one of either Leo Bertos, Josh Brindell-South or Albert Riera, could be given the job tomorrow.
Sigmund suggested a return to the basics was what the Phoenix needed to grab their first win of the season.
"I think we need to get back and focus on ourselves again and focus on what Ernie's taught us in the off-season and we've got a game plan and we all know what our roles are and jobs are and that's what we've got to do and that's what I'll be doing on the weekend. I'm not going to focus too much on Western Sydney at the moment."
The large crowd in Sydney tomorrow will seem like a minor distraction compared to what Sigmund could be in for when the All Whites face Mexico in a home-and-away playoff with a World Cup spot on the line next month.
Sigmund is no guarantee to start for the All Whites in their current structure but will certainly be in the travelling squad that will meet El Tri at the Azteca, which has a capacity of 105,000.
The 32-year-old said he had spoken with Phoenix teammates and Costa Rican internationals Carlos Hernandez and Kenny Cunningham, about playing against Mexico.
"Carlos and Kenny have said that there's a lot of talk over there that they're a bit scared of New Zealand and Mexico are a little bit out of form," Sigmund said.
"But I think if we do all the right things like we did last time against Bahrain [in 2009] then it should be a hell of a couple of games."
