It appears an Australian sporting record was not a big deal to those who set it.
The Brisbane Roar scaled unprecedented heights for Australian sporting teams last month when it notched up its 36th unbeaten game, set across 15 months, passing the previous mark for an undefeated Australian sporting team set by the Eastern Suburbs rugby league team in 1936-37.
The record went the next game and Roar skipper Shane Stefanutto said it was now a distant memory.
"It's long forgotten. When I'm old and grey that is what I will be talking to people about. But at the moment it is all about getting back into some good performances and form.
He said the players never really discussed the record.
"It was more about people talking about it than us. No-one believes it but we did not talk about it in the dressing room. It was just about us rolling on. It was more the people in the street coming along and saying 'one more game and you are there', 'you've got the record, that is fantastic'.
"Sure it was great and on the night and on the field we celebrated together. Then we went away, thought about our recovery and what was happening next. And that is the strength of this team. We do not get ahead of ourselves."
Stefanutto said the losses of the past two games had been disappointing but luckily tonight's game against the Phoenix had come along quickly so there was no time to dwell on things.
Stefanutto will captain the side from the back in a team which is missing some injured players.
"It would be great to have have everyone fit. Unfortunately we don't but there are guys coming into the squad who will do a really good job."
