The Wellington Phoenix is again heading to Dunedin.

The A league fixtures list for the 2012-13 season was released yesterday and the Phoenix are scheduled to take on the Melbourne Heart at Forsyth Barr Stadium on March 3, a Sunday.

The match will kick off at 4.30pm.

The Phoenix has come to Dunedin twice before, although one of those games was a warm-up match, in August last year, just after the stadium opened. The Phoenix took on the Brisbane Roar in a pre-season friendly match.

More than 15,000 people attended the match.

In December the same two teams came back to the stadium to play a full A-League match.

Fewer than 5000 people turned up although Football Federation Australia admitted it could have picked a better time.

The low attendance was affected by students having finished their studies for the year, the game was scheduled 10 days before Christmas, on a Wednesday night.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd commercial director Guy Hedderwick said despite the low turnout to the December match, the FFA was impressed by the courage shown by DVML in putting the event on.

"We are excited they are coming back especially, with the success of last year.

"This is a better time this year and we want to get the biggest crowd that we possibly can into the game." Hedderwick said.

"It is probably too early at the moment to think of what sort of crowd we will get but it is the beginning of the football season here and we would hope for a decent-sized crowd."

The crowd for the pre-season game was the biggest for any pre-season match in the A-League's history, he said.

The Super 15 starts in late February but its draw for next season is yet to be finalised. Hedderwick did not envisage any problems, as the ground could easily be changed from rugby field to a football field within a day.

The Highlanders will not be scheduled to play on a Sunday.

With a rodeo scheduled for the venue in November, Hedderwick said the stadium was establishing itself as the premier venue in the country.

The Dunedin game for the Phoenix is part of a community round organised by FFA. Games are also to be played in Campbelltown, NSW, and Launceston.

The Heart made the playoffs of the A league last year, finishing sixth in the league, but were knocked out in the first round.

The Phoenix, which also made the playoffs last year, starts its season on October 6, taking on Sydney in Wellington.

The Phoenix will play all but two of its home games in Wellington.

The other match outside Wellington has yet to be finalised.

The Phoenix announced yesterday it has signed Solomon Islands striker Benjamin Totori.

Totori had previously played domestically in New Zealand and impressed in the Confederations Cup qualifiers in the Solomon Islands earlier this month.
