Wellington Phoenix have shot down reports that they have been granted an A-League licence extension by Football Federation Australia.
Fairfax reported that the Phoenix had agreed to a four-year licence extension with Football Federation Australia.
It said the Wellington club had accepted a renewed offer from the FFA until at least 2020 in an incentivised deal with strict provisions.
But the club released a statement denying any extension had been granted.
"The Wellington Phoenix have not agreed to a new licence extension," general manager David Dome said.
"The negotiations for a licence extension are continuing but the Wellington Phoenix have not and will not conduct these negotiations via the media."
It was last week reported that club owners Welnix had reached agreement with FFA and were set to be granted a 10-year licence extension.
But Dome said then there had been "no major advances" in ongoing talks.
"Talks have been ticking along slowly, but there have been no major advances," he said.
"There are still a few things we need to work on with third parties, and they are complex and not inconsequential.
"We've just got to keep plugging away ... there's certainly no imminent announcement."
The Phoenix's A-League future has been under a cloud since their request for a 10-year licence was declined by FFA last October.
The FFA offered Wellington the option of a four-year deal after previously extending the licences of all nine Australia-based clubs until 2034.
FFA boss David Gallop said the Phoenix could not simply "squat on a licence", and needed to improve their crowds, TV ratings and membership.
