In a sprint to the finish, Caversham, Roslyn-Wakari and Dunedin Technical are neck and neck in the premier football league.
Caversham has 31 points, equal with Roslyn which has a game in hand, while Technical has 24 points and two games in hand.
It adds up to an exciting climax, especially in the knowledge that only two teams can progress to the inaugural South Island Championship against the best two from Mainland's Premier competition.
The unbeaten Nelson Suburbs has dominated Mainland's league, having played 17 matches for 45 points.
Nomads are second after 18 games for 42 points, and Halswell has 33 points.
The South Island Championship semifinals will be played on September 20, with Mainland's winner playing Football South's runner-up in either Christchurch or Nelson depending on the home of the Mainland champion.
The Soccer South champion will be at home to the Mainland runner-up. The grand final on September 27 will be played in Dunedin if a Soccer South team makes the final. If two Mainland teams win their respective semifinals, the final will be held in the city of the team that wins the Mainland competition.
So, to win the ODT Premier league means a home advantage in the SIC, which will spur local sides. All today's senior matches are at 2.45pm.
Mosgiel may be out of the reckoning for the SI championship, but showed last week against Roslyn it could be a difficult opponent. It hosts Caversham at Memorial Park.
After losing American striker Carson Gorecki, then Patrick Fleming, Caversham has lost some impetus up the middle. However, as it showed against Green Island, the side is hardly toothless.
Today's trip to Queenstown will be no holiday for Roslyn. Queenstown will be without two regulars sent off in its last game, but coach Jamie Whitmarsh still has talent that can damage most defences.
Green Island plays Technical, which needs a win to stay in the hunt for the top two, at Sunnyvale.
