Dunedin Technical has given a vote of confidence to senior coach Mike Fridge, extending the Scot's contract to 2010.

Technical club president Steve Dunn said Fridge had done a great job and the club's committee was unanimous in opting to retain his services.

Fridge was delighted at being given the chance to fulfil his objectives of continued improvement both on and off the field.

"I regard the Tech club as being a sleeping giant. They have already won the Chatham Cup in 1999, and also played at National League level, so we aim to regain that sort of quality," Fridge said.

The coach, who hails from the Inverness area, has had professional experience with clubs such as Inverness Caley and Nairn County, as well as amateur clubs in that area.

"We have to remember that the game is amateur here, but I am working at introducing a professional attitude among the top teams at Culling Park.

"We have about 40 players in the top three teams, and many of them are youngsters who need quality coaching. To that end, we have a team of coaches working hard, and they are doing a fine job."

Assisting Fridge at the top level are Malcolm Fleming and Tony Martin, with Paul Cameron looking after Fletcher Cup, and Tony Ayoub coaching the third team.

Goalkeeping coach Tony Boomer completes the coaching cadre.

Technical has attracted many young players through its participation in the annual youth tournament run in Napier, and Fridge sees this group as the club's building blocks for the future.

There is only one Southern Premier League game being played this weekend, because of the heavy rain, with league leader Caversham playing Queenstown at Bayfield.
