Coach Malcolm Fleming is contemplating resigning from his job as senior coach at Otago United.
"It has nothing to do with [the] 5-0 loss in Wellington.
"I approached the club administration before the game, about players expenses not being paid," Fleming said yesterday.
"When I started to hand out their expenses, some players were getting more than others, which did not go down well, especially before an important match.
"There has already been some delay in expense payments, and with the Christmas break approaching, players expected to be brought up to date.
"It was so embarrassing that I have tendered my resignation. Whether the club accepts it, [is] up to them," Fleming said.
Otago United chairman Dave Lamont explained: "We have just had a new system of expense payments initiated by NZ Football, and this has resulted in some confusion and what appears to be inconsistent payments.
"We must comply with the strict new NZ Football requirements which require more exact paperwork and receipts. I sympathise with Malcolm's embarrassment, especially when full expense payments were expected before the holiday period. This is the first time we have had to use these particular forms," Lamont said.
The chairman expects to talk to Fleming as soon as possible to clarify the situation.
