Surprisingly both teams have already dropped points - Caversham to Grants Braes and Technical to Northern, in results that if forecast would have brought a handsome return from bookmakers.
Yet both teams are already locked equal at the top of the league on seven points, so this weekend could lever a gap at the top.
Technical possibly has an edge since coach Mike Fridge's side earned a 1-0 win over a feisty Mosgiel team last week, despite not having the services of captain Tristan Prattley, who was red-carded the week before.
Another ace for Technical is striker Aaron Burgess, who scored 40 goals last season to earn the Golden Boot, and already has a gleam in his eye, with five goals in three matches.
Despite Mosgiel basing its strategy on restraining Burgess, the Technical striker might have worn an invisibility cloak to find unmarked space within two minutes and head what turned out to be the winner.
This week it is Caversham's turn to shackle the prolific striker and in front of keeper Liam Little there is a mix of young defenders such as Jude Fitzpatrick, and Andrew Ridden, combined with the experience of Craig Ferguson, especially since regular stalwart Mike Smith is out injured.
Whether Caversham screen, or do skin-tight man-marking, it will be a game within a game to shackle Burgess, and his new partner in crime, Frenchman Victor da Costa.
The classic answer is for Caversham to attack in numbers that will force Technical on the back foot, with Ant Hancock, Anton Ross and Harley Rodeka aiming for the all important first goal.
It should be an intriguing contest.
Another match where the teams will be hard to separate is the traditional collision between Northern and Roslyn-Wakari on the superb Gardens playing surface.
Northern is two rungs above Roslyn on the ladder, and has shown good discipline to earn two draws. Roslyn is second-bottom and is still searching for a team shape that will produce goals.
It is a country derby between Mosgiel and Green Island out on the plains at Memorial Park, and while Mosgiel was tipped pre-season to be a contender for honours, it is the Island that is unbeaten and fizzing.
Green Island coach Malcolm Fleming and Mosgiel's enduring player-coach Mike McGarry know both squads well, and it will be a tactical game, backed by plenty of tough tackling.
University is at home to Grants Braes at the Caledonian Ground, and while the students have played clever football, Braes has shown to be hard in defence this season. Former professional Njoh Mpondo is the lynchpin and keeper Antony Mallon's excellent form has earned two clean sheets.
Queenstown has the bye. All matches start at 2.45pm.
