After trailing Otago University 2-1, it poured in five goals to claim a 6-2 win at Hancock Park yesterday.
It was its second win of the Southern Football League, while University remains without a point.
Ben Kiore was electric for Caversham, his pace causing havoc and his finishing touch netting a second half hat-trick.
He proved decisive in opening the game up after a tighter first half.
University struck first when Scottish exchange student Santeri Kuilvalainen found himself in space to score from the edge of the box, 15 minutes in.
Caversham hit straight back via Connor Neil, who got on the end of an excellent pass from Jared Grove.
That made it 1-1 but University regained the lead just two minutes later, when a hand ball penalty was awarded.
Sean van Dyk did well to deflect Dominic Scahill's penalty, but could not save Scahill's follow-up.
University maintained the upper hand for the next 15 minutes, before Neil bagged his second.
He climbed above a cluster in the box to head in a Ben Wade corner.
After the break Kiore took over, twice using his pace to run on to nicely weight passes behind the University defence.
Both times he finished clinically, before Wade finished superbly over keeper Stewart Catto's head to make it 5-2.
Kiore made it three nine minutes later, getting on the end of a low Andrew Ridden cross to complete the rout.
Mosgiel was beaten 3-1 by Nelson Suburbs in an entertaining game at Memorial Park.
Nelson had won its first three matches and Mosgiel had to, and did, play a much better game.
It took the game to Nelson and the front three of Lewis Wall, Riley Anderton and Cam Anderson combined well.
Gordon put Nelson ahead on 17 minutes when he leapt the highest to nod the ball past Levi Waddington.
Anderton broke free for Mosgiel right on halftime, but as he was about to lob Corey Wilson in goal he was pulled back for offside.
In the second half, Ben Deeley's goal-bound shot on the turn was blocked on 55 minutes.
Nelson was reduced to 10 men on 60 minutes when Adam Smith was given a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Anderson.
Mosgiel failed to take advantage of the numerical advantage.
Seven minutes later Mosgiel's player-coach Cam McPhail was judged to have leaned on a Nelson player who, having felt the merest of touches, went down in the box.
The referee had no hesitation in giving Nelson a penalty which Gordon dispatched.
Mosgiel changed to an attacking formation and pulled a goal back with 11 minutes to go.
An Anderson corner was swung in and McPhail's diving header gave Wilson no chance.
Charlie Gruppelaar pushed forward and he broke through, only to be denied by Wilson's fingertips.
Nelson was awarded another penalty with two minutes left when a desperate tackle from McPhail caught the man.
Despite Waddington getting a hand to it, he could not stop Gordon from claiming his hat-trick.
In other games, Cashmere Technical thrashed Nomads United 6-1, while Western won 3-1 to end Coastal Spirit's perfect run to start the league.
In the Southern Championship, Nathan Wilkie scored three goals to help Roslyn Wakari to a 5-2 win over Northern.
Green Island remains on top of that table with a 5-1 win over Southland at Sunnyvale.
