4 to headline youth team

Four players from Southern United’s senior team headline its youth team this season.

Stewart Catto, Alex Cox, Cam Anderson and Adam Hewson were all named in the 23-player squad for the upcoming national youth league.

The four give the side a spread of talent from across the federation.

Anderson, who moved south from Timaru this year, was named Football South’s young male player of the year this year after an impressive season with Roslyn Wakari.

Catto and Hewson both experienced the Southern Football League playing for Southland United and Queenstown FC respectively.

Meanwhile, Cox is in his second season of being in both the senior and youth Southern teams.

Several other players also bring top-level club experience to the side.

They include the likes of Rory Findlay, Matt Milton, Charlie Gruppelaar, Joe Carvell and Rhys Quarrell.

The side will be coached by the senior team’s assistant coach, Terry Boylan,  assisted by Cameron McPhail and former Southern captain Harley Rodeka.

It begins its campaign next weekend in Auckland against Eastern Suburbs.
