Taieri wins rain-affected match

Green Island 126/7 lost to Taieri 137/1

Taieri opener Nick Kwant thumped an undefeated century to help his side record a nine-wicket win against Green Island at Sunnyvale on Saturday.

In a rain-affected Dunedin premier one-day match, Green Island reached 126 for seven after 28 overs.

Elliott Santner top-scored for the Swamp Rats with 50 and Joel Meade made 31 from 18.

Toby Hart nabbed a couple of wickets (two for 24) and Kwant took three for 39 in what was a tremendous start to the day for the left-hander.

Taieri chased an adjusted target — how much exactly is one of the many features still missing from PlayHQ — and got there thanks to some powerful batting by Kwant.

He clubbed four sixes and 16 fours in his knock of 106 from 53 balls.

Adam Jones provided some support with 22 not out.

Tony Cardno (one for 22) was the only successful bowler for Green Island. He caught and bowled Beckham Wheeler-Greenall for six.

The games between Albion and University-Grange at Tonga Park, and North East Valley and CDK at Logan Park, were both called off due to wet weather.
