Otago teams will spend Christmas Eve in Wellington before rounding out the year in Queenstown.
The Super Smash draw was released yesterday, and the Sparks and the Volts will open their campaign in the capital.
The Sparks-Blaze game is a repeat of last summer’s final. The Blaze thumped the Sparks by 75 runs to claim the T20 title.
The Sparks took revenge in the one-day final, beating the Blaze by 138 runs.
The Volts managed just one win in Super Smash last season and claimed the wooden spoon.
They have signed Black Cap Glenn Phillips, and the return of Dean Foxcroft should bolster the batting line-up.
But the retirements of Neil Broom and Anaru Kitchen and the departure of Nick Kelly to Wellington are setbacks.
Wellington will present a stern opening challenge for the Volts. The Firebirds were eliminated in the preliminary final last season.
Both Otago teams then head to Queenstown for games against Northern Districts and Auckland.
Dunedin-based fans will get their first opportunity to see their teams live on January 15.
The Otago teams are hosting the sides from Wellington.
Two years ago, Sophie Devine smashed an undefeated 108 from 38 balls at the venue.
Her hundred came off a world-record 36 balls.
The 2022-23 Super Smash is scheduled to coincide with the summer holidays.
The competition gets under way on December 23 and runs through to February 11.
Sixty-four 64 games will be played at 10 venues, including a return to Nelson’s Saxton Oval.
Every game will be streamed live on Spark Sport, and 32 games will be broadcast live on free-to-air TVNZ.
Super Smash league manager Nicky Britten said the 2022-23 competition sought to build on the momentum of the domestic T20 game over the past five years and put Covid behind it.
"This summer is all about welcoming back the crowds and providing fans with the best possible opportunity to get out and experience the action first-hand, to let their hair down and have a good time," she said.
"As our Black Caps and White Ferns have shown at the last T20 World Cup and Commonwealth Games, respectively, we have some seriously good T20 players in New Zealand
"Last season the coverage attracted more than 1.4 million viewers, and the number of people tuning in has doubled over the past five years — which is terrific for exposing our game to fans and young New Zealanders.’’
