Selection dream come true for Broom

Neil Broom had given up on his dream of playing test cricket for his country.

But the 33-year-old Otago right-hander will get to try on the whites after all.

He has been called in for the injured Ross Taylor and is likely to bat at No4 in the second test against South Africa, beginning in Wellington on Thursday.

''I've always really wanted to play test cricket and had never been lucky enough,'' Broom said. ''So to get the opportunity this late in my career is pretty special.''

While Broom will be making his test debut if he is named in the playing XI on Thursday, he has played 30 ODIs and 11 twenty20 internationals. He is also a hardened campaigner at first-class level with 136 games and 18 centuries to his name.
