Experienced Green Island all-rounder Geordie Scott pummelled a rapid undefeated century to help his side crush Taieri in the regional final of the club knockout tournament at Brooklands Park yesterday.

The big-hitting right-hander whacked four sixes and 11 fours in a devastating assault during which he reached 103 from just 55 deliveries.

Scott arrived at the crease with his side nicely placed at 127 for three with 18 overs remaining.

Veteran Ant Harris helped set up the platform with 62 at the top.

Scott did not waste the opportunity. In a wonderful display of power, he lifted his side to 301 for five.

Gregor Croudis provided some tremendous support with 78 from 99 balls. The pair put on 121 runs for the fourth wicket and really took the game away from Taieri, which possesses a quality attack, including the Otago trio of Jack Hunter, Warren Barnes and Ben Lockrose.

Hunter got collared in his last two overs but his two for 56 was pretty good value in the context of the innings, while Lockrose was the standout. The left-arm spinner took one for 21 from eight overs.

He did not have to bowl to Scott when he was in full attack mode. But it was an impressive spell nonetheless. It might be time for the 18-year-old to get another opportunity at provincial level.

Taieri provided a meek chase, with a few exceptions. Cameron Jackson smashed veteran seamer Dion Lobb out of the attack with a series of early boundaries.

His problem was wickets were tumbling at the other end. Volts all-rounder Christi Viljoen removed opener Clint Hayward (7) and Jarryd Taig (10) cheaply.

Lobb struck as well before he was forced to have a spell. Taieri had slumped to 59 for three and then Jackson got out for a bold 43 from 32 deliveries.

Spinner Jack Mockford mowed through the middle order with three quick wickets to remove any serious risk of losing the game.

Hunter tried to salvage some pride with 23 not out. But veteran all-rounder Mark Joyce claimed the last two wickets to help dismiss Taieri for a paltry 119 to complete a massive 182-run win.

The victory has secured Green Island a place at the national finals in Auckland later this year.
