The pace bowler has called time on his Otago Volts career, having relocated to Christchurch, where he and his wife have recently bought a house.
He will be available for selection for Canterbury next season.
"I would have loved to be part of the team’s exciting journey going forward, but at the end of the day, I’ve made the decision to put my family first," Rae said.
Rae made his first class-debut during the 2014-15 season, played his first T20 Super Smash game in 2016-17, and made his List A debut the following season. He has notched up 105 appearances across all formats.
He took 210 wickets for the Volts, a highlight the seven for 35 he took against Auckland during the List A game in December 2020.
He was the Super Smash leading wicket-taker (16) and joint Ford Trophy leader (18), and was named Volts bowler of the year, in the 2022-23 season. He has also represented New Zealand A and a New Zealand XI.
Otago cricket chief executive Mike Coggan paid tribute to Rae’s contribution.
“Since the first time I met Razor back in 2015, I was impressed and to this day I have so much admiration for him," he said.
"We will absolutely miss him and everything he brings to the Volts and Otago Cricket."
