No play on first day

The opening day of the first test between India and the Black Caps in Bengaluru was called off after persistent drizzle had prevented play in the first two sessions.

Play will start 15 minutes early today and 15 minutes will be added to the first two sessions meaning a total of 98 overs can be bowled. The forecast yesterday, however, was for more rain.

Yesterday’s abandonment meant the Black Caps have lost 18 consecutive sessions of test cricket in India after the one-off test against Afghanistan in Noida was rained off without a ball being bowled last month.

The three-test series also features matches in Pune and Mumbai.
