Green Island 134 lost to North East Valley 136/4
North East Valley consolidated its spot at the top of the Bing Harris standings with a convincing six-wicket win against Green Island in a one-day match at Sunnyvale on Saturday.
Green Island slumped to 134 all out.
Otago all-rounder Jake Gibson whacked 21 off 18 at the top of the innings and Elliot Santner (24), Jacob Gilbert (19) and Regan Cairns (19) made small contributions as well.
None of it added up to very much though. Oli White shone with the ball. He nabbed five for 24 from 10 tight overs, while Otago seamer Travis Muller picked up the wicket of Gibson in a useful four-over stint.
The Swans chased the target down with more than half the overs remaining.
Hard-hitting Volts middle order batter Llew Johnson clubbed 52 from 53 deliveries, while Hunter Kindley made an undefeated 30 from 40 balls to complete the job.
Valley has a 20-point lead at the top of the combined standings and is undefeated in the one-day competition with four wins from four games.
CDK 102 lost to Albion 104/2
Albion routed Carisbrook-Dunedin/Kaikorai by eight wickets at Tonga Park.
Matthew West (three for 10), James Brown (three for 22) and Josh Cuttance (three for 26) combined to roll the Hounds for a paltry 102.
Joshua Wells top-scored for the Hounds with 32 from 41 balls. No-one else was able to make a substantial contribution.
Resistance was minimal and the tally of 102 proved a light workout for the Eagles.
Experienced opener Josh Tasman-Jones struck an undefeated 28 at the top of the innings and Oscar Wilson crunched 41 from 43.
Former Wellington first-class player Joe Smellie helped finish the job with 19 not out.
Albion is in second place with 41 points in the combined standings and tucked in second place in the one-day tournament.
Taieri 133 beat University-Grange 116
Taieri limped to 133 at Brooklands Park but it was enough to register a 17-run win against University-Grange.
Tom Dempster made a rapid 24 at the top of the innings and No 7 Cameron Elliott top scored with 33 from 65 to beef up a modest tally.
Former Otago all-rounder and Sparks assistant coach Shawn Hicks took six for 21. Hicks retired from top level cricket in 2019, citing concussion concerns.
He produced a cracking bowling performance, but University-Grange collapsed to be all out of 116.
Zac Cumming top scored with 46, while Stephen Markham chipped in with 26.
But Volts left-arm spinner Ben Lockrose nabbed four for 37 and Regan Flaws took three for 32 to help rescue a win for Taieri.
Beckham Wheeler-Greenall picked up a couple of wickets as well.
