The popular Alexandra oval has been a regular feature on the domestic schedule since the late 1970s.
However, the ground lost its New Zealand Cricket warrant of fitness after the pitch was deemed unsatisfactory following Otago's eight-wicket win over Central Districts last season.
The venue has been pencilled in for two Otago home matches, against Wellington (December 8) and Central Districts (December 28) in the domestic schedule released by New Zealand Cricket yesterday.
The ground will undergo a trial towards the end of this month to assess its fitness for those fixtures, and Otago Cricket Association chief executive Ross Dykes believes it will come up to scratch.
"You can't be guaranteed anything but there has been a concerted effort put in from the [Molyneux Park] Trust and the groundsman, Richard Mc-Alevey," Dykes said.
Oamaru's Centennial Park has also been allocated a one-dayer - Northern Districts on December 20 - but it, too, will have to pass a fitness test.
Dykes said scheduling a trial for the ground was difficult with so much rugby being played at the venue.
"They can't get the preparations under way until rugby has finished and, with North Otago in the Lochore Cup, the trial has to be delayed."
Dykes was uncertain where the fixtures would be played if Molyneux Park and Centennial Park did not measure up.
However, he was confident a venue would be found in the region.
The Queenstown Events Centre and Queens Park in Invercargill have both been allocated games.
Queens Park will host a twenty/20 match against Northern Districts on January 12 and a one-dayer against Auckland on February 3.
The Queenstown Events Centre will host two four-day matches - Wellington from December 3-6 and Canterbury from March 12-15.
The University Oval will stage four of Otago's five twenty/20 fixtures and two four-day matches but has not been allocated any one-day matches.
The venue will also host a test against Pakistan from November 24-28 and a one-day international against Bangladesh on February 8.
The twenty/20 tournament has been expanded this season at the expense of the one-day and four-day programmes.
This season there is no four-day final and the one-day competition has lost two round-robin matches but gains an extended finals series.
The top four sides will contest the play-offs, whereas previously only the top three sides remained in contention for the title.
