Green Island’s Hamish Wilson hit a four from the last ball to secure the Swamp Rats a tense five-wicket win over CDK at Sunnyvale on Saturday.
CDK were crushed by 74 runs in their opening T20 on Thursday night but bounced back to post a competitive 150 for four.
Mason Gain added 37 at the top of the order and Thomas O’Connor (52 not out from 37 balls) and Henry Scott (43 not out from 25) put on an unbroken stand of 81 for the fifth wicket.
Veteran Green Island left-armer Blair Soper took two for 26 and Mayank Malhotra took one for 19 from four overs.
Malhotra added 32 with the bat in a 53-run partnership with Yuvraj Khara (41 from 20).
And Daniel Lawrence’s undefeated knock of 45 from 33 balls got Green Island to the cusp of victory. Wilson delivered the coup de grace.
Alfie Omelvena-Flame led the way for CDK with the ball, taking three for 27.
In the afternoon game at Sunnyvale, Green Island edged Albion by six runs. They put on 155 for six. Brad Kneebone (24), Khara (37) and Ant Harris (48) did the bulk of the scoring, while Dylan Fletcher nabbed three for 34 for Albion.
Fletcher also top-scored in the chase with 34.
Taieri remains unbeaten in the T20.
They rolled University-Grange for a paltry 69 to win by nine wickets at Brooklands.
Spinners Ben Lockrose (two for eight) and Beckham Wheeler-Greenall (three for nine) ran through the Grange batting lineup.
Ruben Clinton, who took two for none at the end of the innings, clouted 53 not out from 23 balls to help clinch the win in the seventh over.
He clobbered three sixes and seven fours.
They also had a 65-run win against North East Valley.
Clinton made 47 and Neil Broom chipped in with 26 to help Taieri post 131 for eight.
The Swans could only manage 66 for nine in reply.
Lockrose (three for five) and Clinton (three for eight) proved unplayable.
North East Valley cruised to a very comfortable win against Albion at Logan Park in the morning game.
They mounted a challenging total of 153 for nine.
Sebastian Lauderdale-Smith top-scored with 43 from 37 and Shaedon Miller clipped 34 from 26 balls.
Sam Paterson added 20 not out from 12 balls to get the side past 150.
Mason Clarke took three for 29 and veteran Matt West grabbed two for 27 for Albion.
The Eagles’ chase fell apart.
Taylor Cumberland top-scored with 24 from 29 but the Swans’ bowling unit dominated.
Hunter Kindley took three for seven, while openers Bodhi Keiller (one for six) and Will Hamilton (two for 11) and experienced all-rounder Jeremy Smith (two for 27) teamed up to restrict Albion to 59 for nine.
Their last batter did not come out to bat.
University-Grange beat CDK in the afternoon by nine runs.
They scored 141 for eight and restricted CDK to 132 for seven.
