Batting first, Wilson was not the only batsman to stand out for the home side. Cromwell's Mark Knox scored 47 and Daniel Ford 38 to get the home side through to 304 by the end of day one.
Former Otago Country spin bowler Jason Domigan played for Southland and did most of the damage, taking three for 29 off 20 overs.
Three other bowlers, Craig Smith, Mark Beer and Jason Milne shared two wickets each in the innings.
By lunch on day two, Southland had managed 165 for the loss of three, largely thanks to Shaun Fitzgibbon, who was eventually out for 91, caught by Bradley Frost off the bowling of Ford.
Unfortunately for Southland, Fitzgibbon was the only batsman to challenge the Country bowlers as Sam Blakely went on to take four wickets for 21 off his 14 overs.
Knox and Ford finished a well-rounded game with two wickets to add to their runs as Southland crawled through to 222, after looking to be in a good position earlier in the day.
Otago Country's next challenge is against South Canterbury in Alexandra on of December 18 and 19.
Mid Canterbury stormed back on the second day to get an eight-wicket win over South Canterbury in Ashburton yesterday.
South Canterbury made 209 in its first innings, James Laming top-scoring with 46. Jason Morrison (three for 37) and Ryan Cockburn (three for 40) were the pick of the Mid Canterbury bowlers.
The home side slumped to 120 for six at stumps on the opening day, and was all out for 202 before lunch yesterday.
Rob Madden (25) and Lyell Jemmett (42) produced a third-wicket stand of 63, with Sam Carlaw, Kevin Teahen and Craig Davies each taking three wickets for South Canterbury.
That set the scene for an extraordinary South Canterbury collapse, the side dismissed for just 61 in its second turn at bat. Cockburn, Richard Print and Bevan Ravenscroft each claimed three wickets for the home side.
Mid Canterbury needed 69 for the outright win, and it was achieved in the last over before tea, with Rob Polson unbeaten on 44 at the close.
