Otago all-rounder Sam Wells and medium pacer Anthony Bullick are the only newcomers in a predictable Volts squad.
The country's six major associations yesterday released the names of those players offered domestic contracts for the coming season.
The contracting process has changed this year and now involves two rounds.
Each association can offer between nine and 11 contracts.
The remaining slots are filled in the second round and offered on August 24.
Otago is expected to offer its last contract to Darren Broom, who made a century on debut for the province last summer.
But for Wells and Bullick, yesterday's announcement was recognition of some impressive performances.
Wells, in particular, had an outstanding summer.
Having skirted the side for a couple of seasons, he emerged as a genuine game-breaker, surprising just about everybody.
In the Plunket Shield he took 21 wickets at an average of 24.42, including two five-wicket bags.
He averaged close to 60 with the bat, scoring two centuries and three 50s.
With Otago's leading all-rounder Nathan McCullum likely to miss a lot of domestic play while on national duty, the Volts will be looking to Wells to build on his success.
Bullick's inclusion comes at the expense of strike bowler James McMillan.
The 32-year-old has had an injury-prone career and played just the three first-class games for Otago last season.
Bullick lacks McMillan's pace but he is a busy bowler and a wholehearted player.
He got better with each outing and was Otago's leading wicket-taker in the one-day tournament.
Mat Harvie did not make himself available and was not considered for a contract, and top-order batsman Leighton Morgan will probably be overlooked in favour of Broom.
Stalwarts Craig Cumming, Warren McSkimming and Aaron Redmond return, as do Nick Beard, Derek de Boorder, Shaun Haig and left-armer Neil Wagner.
Ian Butler and Neil Broom return to the Otago fold after missing out on a national contract.
The domestic contracts begin on October 1 and will be subject to the completion of the new master agreement.
