A lot, as it turns out.
The year 12 Catlins Area School pupil won the Otago Daily Times Best XI competition.
The competition asked armchair selectors to pick the best all time Otago team based on contribution to Otago first-class cricket.
There were more than 120 entries, with many people correctly naming eight or nine of the final 12, as chosen by our panel of experts.
But Jeremy was the outright winner, correctly guessing 11 of the 12 players.
What makes his feat so impressive is Jeremy, a keen cricketer, was not even born when most of the players he picked were forging their careers.
So, how did he do it? He had some luck, but he also stuck to the guidelines and was not swayed by emotion.
"In the paper each day there would be a page on wicketkeepers or spin bowlers," Jeremy said.
"So, I went through them and picked the best of them. I looked at their averages and how many matches they had played for Otago."
He also exercised some restraint by leaving his favourite player, Brendon McCullum, out of the team, and was one of the few entries to correctly name spinner Alex Moir in the team.
"There were a couple of players I wasn't that sure about, but I just went with the person I thought was the best," Jeremy said.
The only player he missed was batsman Roger Blunt.
For his efforts, Jeremy has won an hour-long team coaching session with Otago coach Mike Hesson, Otago captain Craig Cumming and Otago cricket manager Mark Bracewell.
The prize package also includes a bat signed by Black Cap brothers Brendon and Nathan McCullum, and a copy of The Last Everyday Hero: The Bert Sutcliffe Story, by Richard Boock.
Jeremy, an all-rounder, plays for the Owaka Cricket Club in the senior competition and is a member of the Otago Country under-18 team.
