This is the third series of games among the six women's teams and Otago would have been disappointed with its return in the last games against Northern Districts.
It takes on the Central Hinds at Molyneux Park in Alexandra over the next three days.
In Lincoln last weekend, it lost the twenty20 match to Northern Districts, struck back the next day to win the first of the one-day games easily but then let a winning position slip in the second one-dayer to go down with three balls to spare.
The side is not out of reach in the table in a competition which has just a straight final.
Sparks coach Warren Lees said the side just had to do the basics well and look for one of the top three batters to make a solid total.
The side had to get some consistency into its games, he said, and it had not played poorly.
It still had to play a series of games against Wellington and Canterbury, two of the better teams, so it was vital to get some points this weekend.
The side really enjoyed playing in Alexandra, he said, and wanted to put on a good performance.
Auckland has a clear lead in the one-day competition.
Otago is back in fifth position in the one-day competition, sitting on five points. The Central Hinds are one point ahead of the Sparks so also have plenty to play for.
Sparks wicketkeeper Katey Martin showed she was in good form with a century in the unsuccessful effort against Northern Districts, but Otago's problem appears to be an inability to get partnerships going.
Too many wickets were lost at just the wrong time for the Sparks last weekend and the side, which now has a fair degree of experience, needs to find some combinations to make an impact.
The Central Hinds are coming off a three-game losing series to the table-topping Auckland Hearts.
But the Hinds were far from disgraced and showed plenty of vigour with the bat against Auckland.
In the final one-day game, the Hinds tallied a healthy 228 but a controlled chase from the Auckland side had it home with more than 10 overs to spare.
The twenty20 game is up first today, starting at 3pm, and Otago has a record of one win and one loss in the competition.
It beat Auckland comfortably in November but stumbled against Northern Districts when chasing 135.
These short-version games can turn into a bit of a hit-and-miss affair but Otago will be looking to make the most of some inexperience in the Central Hinds bowling line-up.
The Hinds have also one win and one loss in its opening two twenty20 games and sit just behind the Sparks on run rate.
Canterbury is the only team with two wins from two games.
