Jesse Ryder has been named in the Wellington Firebirds team to play the Otago Volts at Queen's Park in Invercargill tomorrow.
Ryder is returning from a left calf tear, sustained while fielding for Wellington in their HRV Cup loss to Central Districts shortly before Christmas.
The 27-year-old made a successful return to the field in the weekend when playing for his Naenae club, hitting an unbeaten 40 off 17 balls.
A successful return for Wellington will put Ryder in the frame for a return to international level, as Black Caps captain Ross Taylor has a calf strain of his own.
Ryder replaces Michael Pollard for the Firebirds, while in the other change to the team which beat the Auckland Aces on Sunday Jose Brodie comes in for Craig Cachopa.
Wellington Firebirds: Grant Elliott (c), Harry Boam, Josh Brodie, James Franklin, Mark Gillespie, Scott Kuggeleijn, Andy McKay, Stephen Murdoch, Michael Papps, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Luke Woodcock.
