Rain has halted a fightback by the Northern Knights against the Otago Volts in their Plunket Shield match in Hamilton today.
The Volts had the home side in early trouble at 9 for 2, then 40 for 3, but the Knights have recovered to be 143 for 4 midway through the second session.
For Otago, paceman James McMillan has 3 for 42, having done the early damage by dismissing opener Brad Wilson and James Marshall in the same over before coming back to remove former Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori.
Sam Wells, left out of the New Zealand test squad to play South Africa announced today, has the other wicket.
At the crease for the Knights are Joseph Yovich (52 not out) and former Black Cap Daniel Flynn (31no).
In other matches starting today, Central have Auckland in trouble at McLean Park in Napier, the visitors stumbling to 107 for 7, while in Wellington Canterbury have made a fair fist of their first innings after being asked to bat and partway through the middle session were 151 for 3.
