Chasing 266 to win, Otago are 125 for one midway through the second session, with first-innings century-maker Aaron Redmond well set on 62 not out.
With him at the wicket is Michael Bracewell on 33no.
Hamish Rutherford is the man out for Otago, lbw to Todd Astle for 26.
Earlier today, Canterbury resumed on 307 for 8 and were eventually dismissed for 352, with overnight batsmen Astle and Ben McCord scoring 78 and 47 respectively.
