Otago Cricket Association chief executive Ross Dykes has confidence in the security measures in place before the Volts' opening game in the Champions League in India next month.

Political tensions between India and Pakistan have cast doubt over the Faisalabad Wolves' participation in the lucrative tournament.

Otago is meant to play the Wolves in its opening match on September 17 but an incident on the border has left tournament administrators questioning their participation.

''When it comes to any team from Pakistan featuring in a tournament in India, the final decision rests completely in the Foreign Ministry's hands. And we will follow the ministry's advice,'' a senior BCCI official told Cricinfo.

The 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai meant the inaugural Champions League had to be cancelled, and the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan in 2009 has left the Indian public very wary of hosting teams from Pakistan.

But Dykes said the Otago team had received assurances from the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association.

''As far as security is concerned, the players' association does a very thorough job and they have ticked that off,'' Dykes said when asked if he had any safety concerns.

''We will have our own security officer on arrival and we do our warm-ups in Sri Lanka. I think it is well covered but we will remain vigilant.

''There has been a suggestion that their participation should be reviewed. But I think quite a bit of this does tend to go on and, at this stage, we will just prepare ourselves to play the Wolves in the first game.''

Dykes said none of the Otago players had expressed any safety concerns to him, and the overwhelming feeling in the camp was one of excitement.

Otago competed in the tournament in 2009 but was bundled out after consecutive losses in pool play.

The Volts dominated the New Zealand league last summer, winning 10 consecutive games. Hopes are high the 2013 Champions League campaign will be more successful.
