Cricket: Murley rips through Taieri

A wonderful spell of bowling from North East Valley's Jamie Murley left Taieri's batting order in tatters to provide Valley with an easy seven-wicket win.

It was all downhill from the start for Taieri with its first wicket falling for no score. Despite a slight recovery from Ash Simpson (25) things only got worse, with seven of the last eight batsmen failing to score.

Murley finished with figures of seven wickets for 20 runs off seven overs, restricting Taieri to 43 runs from 13 overs.

Valley got off to a bad start, with two wickets falling for just 6 runs, before Jessie Ruwhiu (22) brought his team home in eight overs.

North East Valley 47/3 beat
Taieri 43/10 by 7 wickets

• Defending a small total of 131, Carisbrook-Dunedin's bowling attack fired, dismissing Green Island in 20 overs for 89.

No batsman stood out for Carisbrook-Dunedin and it was all out in the 46th over.

One player to impress for Green Island was wicketkeeper Ben Willemsen who took four catches and made three stumpings.

Green Island never looked like it would trouble Carisbrook-Dunedin, with James Welch grabbing two wickets in the first over and Dan Willemsen picking up one in the next to have Green Island one for three in the second over.

Despite a couple of decent scores from Blair Soper (21) and Jamie Munro (17), Green Island was unable to recover and was all out in just the 23rd over.

Carisbrook-Dunedin 131/10 beat
Green Island 89/10 by 42 runs

• A solid team batting display and a wonderful bowling spell from Tim Muir was more than enough for Kaikorai in its 99-run win over Albion in Dunedin club cricket on Saturday.

All Kaikorai's top-five batsmen scored more than 20 runs to take their team to a solid 187 for five, before a late collapse saw only 29 more runs added to leave a final total of 213.

Jamie Glen (26) and Nathan Sims (27) got Albion off to a good start with a partnership of 60 before Glen was out lbw in the 14th over.

From then on it was all Muir who snatched five wickets from his 10 overs for 19 runs, restricting Albion to 117 all out in the 37th over.

Kaikorai 213/9 beat
Albion 117/10 by 99 runs
