Otago Country Cricket Association chairman Malcolm Jones is confident Molyneux Park will scrub up in time for Otago's scheduled one-day matches at the venue in December.

The Alexandra pitch was deemed unsatisfactory following Otago's eight-wicket win over Central Districts last season, and promptly lost its New Zealand Cricket warrant of fitness.

However, the popular ground has been pencilled in for two Otago one-day fixtures - against Wellington on December 8 and Central Districts on December 28 - if it can prove its suitability.

Jones said everything was being done to bring the pitch up to standard.

"We are doing our level best to get the warrant returned," Jones said.

"We're pretty confident. The Molyneux Park Trust have been working hard with the groundsman [Richard McAlevey] and have sourced help from New Zealand Cricket.

"New Zealand Cricket have been a great help, having their head groundsperson, Jared Carter, involved in setting programmes and such like."

Otago will play a trial match at the ground from October 25-27, partly to test the venue's fitness and also to warm up for its opening four-day match against Northern Districts at the University Oval from November 10-13.

University Oval groundsman Tom Tamati has also been assisting.

Jones said the preparations were still on track despite heavy frosts in Alexandra slowing grass growth.

Oamaru's Centennial Park has been scheduled a one-day match as well but also needs to get a warrant of fitness.

The venue may struggle to fit in a trial match, with the North Otago rugby team playing a Lochore Cup home semifinal on October 24 and potentially a final on October 31.

North Otago Cricket Association chairman Peter Cameron was unavailable yesterday .
