Otago coach Mike Hesson spent more time at the Basin Reserve yesterday than he would have if the scheduled twenty/20 fixture between the Volts and Wellington had actually gone ahead.
Poor weather meant the match was abandoned just after 5pm and the teams shared the four points on offer.
An earlier match in Dunedin between the two sides was also abandoned without a ball bowled.
However, despite having to settle for two points instead of a possible four points on two separate occasions, the Volts are still well-placed.
They share the top of the table with Central Districts, with both teams on 20 points.
Auckland and Northern Districts trail with 16 points each and Wellington (eight and Canterbury (four) are the bottom two teams.
Hesson arrived at the Basin Reserve just after 10am yesterday to discover the ground was sodden.
The scheduled 2pm start was pushed back to 5pm but poor weather intervened and a start was not possible.
It was a frustrating day for the Otago camp.
Coming off a glorious five-wicket win over Auckland on Friday night, the side was keen to keep the momentum going.
"We've been denied two opportunities against Wellington but we can't do anything about it," Hesson said.
"We played well on Friday and we've played well before that. So we've had a good two or three weeks. Now we've got four or five days off to get everyone fresh."
In yesterday's games, Northern beat Canterbury by 71 runs in Hamilton and Auckland edged Central by one run in Nelson.
Otago plays Canterbury at the University Oval on Friday night, Wellington plays Central at the Basin and Auckland plays Northern Districts at Colin Maiden Park.
