Cricket: Joyce, Lobb bowl Green Island to victory


Green Island 183 beat Albion 95 by 88 runs

A disappointing batting display by Albion, combined with some good bowling from Mark Joyce, resulted in Green Island gaining an 88-run win in the Dunedin senior competition on Saturday.

After a good start at 96 for three, Green Island's middle and lower-order batsmen were unable to continue the momentum and were all out for 183.

Hamish Rutherford (47) and Joyce (52) were the pick of the of the batsmen.

A tidy spell of bowling from Paddy Cairns, who captured four wickets, helped keep the run chase for Albion down.

However, the Albion batsmen were unable to gain any momentum and wickets fell regularly.

Dion Lobb also contributed with the ball for Green Island, grabbing four wickets for 29 runs off his 13 overs.


Taieri 218, North East Valley 75/3, match abandoned


The game between Taieri and North East Valley had was abandoned in the 25th over of the second innings due to rain.

At 105 for seven, Taieri looked unlikely to score any more then 150 before Ryan Senior took control of the innings, scoring 114 before being caught out with Taieri on 218 for 9.

The pick of the bowlers for North East Valley were Florian Schmidt with four wickets and Jamie Murley with three.

Looking good with an opening partnership of 61 from Russell Thomas (38) and Lance Taylor(24), Valley's run chase was interrupted by rain with it on 75 for three after 25 overs.


Kaikorai 215 beat University-Grange 131 by 84 runs


A terrific bowling display from Tim Muir helped Kaikorai to a 84-run victory over University-Grange to cement its place on top of the points table.

After a shaky start reduced Kaikorai to 52, its bottom four batsmen were able to put more than 100 runs on the board to take their team to a decent 215 all out.

No 10 Craig Sneddon was the top scorer for Kaikorai with 46.

James McMillan was the pick of the bowlers for University-Grange,with his four wickets giving his team a chance to win the game.

Despite 61 from opening batsman Alistair Collie, University-Grange never looked it they could win and fell 84 runs short.

Muir, with five wickets, and Iain Robertson, with four, knocked over University-Grange.
