Champion Dunedin club Green Island had to be content with a tie on Saturday but had already wrapped up its fourth consecutive senior title - a feat which has not been achieved since the 1920s.
Green Island has dominated Dunedin cricket during the past decade, winning the Bing Harris Shield six times since the turn of the century.
Grange was the last club to win the title four times in a row when it won it from 1922-23 to 1925-26.
Dunedin won three consecutive titles from 1964-65 to 1966-67 and University achieved the same feat from 1967-68 to 1969-1970. Carisbrook holds the record with a run of seven back-to-back titles from 1896-97 to 1902-03.
The Swamp Rats rounded out the summer with a rare tie against Albion and had to share the senior declaration cup with Kaikorai, which had a four-wicket win against University-Grange.
It mattered not a jot with the Bing Harris Shield already safely tucked away for the another winter.
Club stalwart Jeremy Scott said the club was aware of the history and had an enthusiastic celebration at Sunnyvale on Saturday night to mark the occasion.
"We had a celebration last night and had 12 life members there, including Arthur Berry," Scott said.
"His father was president in 1940 and he drove down from Ashburton to be there. He was stoked, and the last life member left at about 11pm."
Green Island's old firm of all-rounder Mark Joyce and medium pacer Dion Lobb had outstanding seasons. The pair have played more than 400 games between them and their experience has been invaluable for the club.
Joyce scored 516 runs at an average of 46.9 and took 37 wickets at 11.8, while Lobb was the leading wicket-taker with 40 at 15.2 and chipped in with 239 runs at 26.6.
Hamish Rutherford was the leading scorer with 660 runs at 60 and captain Jordan Sheed also scored more than 500 runs for the season.
Runs were in short supply for the club on Saturday. Greg Croudis top scored with 38 and Rutherford scored 35 as Green Island slumped to be all out for 136.
Lobb rescued his side with a superb display of medium-pace bowling, taking five for 52 from 22 overs as Albion, remarkably, was dismissed for the same total.
North East Valley thrashed Taieri by nine wickets at Brooklands. Taieri collapsed to be all out for a paltry 73, with Keegan Harrison taking four wickets for five runs. Russell Thomas (24 not out) and Dan Power (20 not out) made light work of the chase.
Will Deerness took six for 46 to help Kaikorai dismiss University-Grange for 160 at Tonga Park. Mayank Patel (38) and Jason Hynes (27 not out) added 55 for the last wicket to help save Grange some blushes.
All-rounder Iain Robertson anchored the successful Kaikorai chase with 56 at the top of the innings.
