Canterbury have declared in their second innings against Otago, setting the home side a run chase of 268 to win their Plunket Shield match at the University Oval.
The Wizards, who led by two runs on the first innings, declared at 265 for 6 not long after lunch, having thwarted Otago's hopes for quick wickets in the morning session.
After resuming on 119 for 3 this morning, Canterbury played solidly, Tom Latham (70) and recalled Black Cap Dean Brownlie (51) both posting half-centuries and first-innings century maker Reece Young chipping in with 33.
Ian Butler was the pick of the Volts bowlers, with two for 6.
In other matches, the Central v Wellington match has ended in a draw after weather again prevented any play, while Auckland are 31 for 1 chasing 309 to win against Northern, although rain has forced players from the field in that match.
