Got to happen soon.

The Otago Sparks right-armer picked up seven wickets in two days to help her side make it through to the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield final in Dunedin on Sunday.

The Sparks needed to post back-to-back wins against Auckland in Dunedin at the weekend to stay in contention.

They did that thanks, in no small part, to Black.

The 22-year-old nabbed three for 31 to help set up a four wicket win on Saturday and shone yesterday with four for 29 to help dismiss Auckland for 144.

Veteran opener Suzie Bates took control of yesterday’s chase.

Her consummate knock of 63 from 68 balls got the Sparks most of the way towards the six-wicket win.

And, crucially, the Sparks secured a valuable bonus point which saw them leapfrog Wellington and book a home venue for the final.

Otago coach Craig Cumming described it as a "dream weekend".

"Our bowlers have done a wonderful job all year and we back them", he said.

"[Black] has been brilliant all year. She has done it in this format and in the T20 format.

"We’ve got one more game to go but I’d be disappointed if she is not being looked at for higher honours."

Black is the leading wicket-taker in the competition with 21 wickets at an average of 11.76.

She struck early yesterday to impose herself on the game once again.

She removed the dangerous Saachi Shahri with a beautiful inswinger which clattered into her stumps.

Despite the setback, Auckland was well-placed at 61 for one.

Spinner Eden Carson trapped Maddy Green lbw for 12 and Prue Catton perished for four when she mistimed a shot off Molly Loe.

Opener Cate Pedersen (38) spooned a catch to point shortly after to leave her side in further trouble.

The Hearts needed a partnership of substance to get the innings back on track. But what they got was a new batter at the crease at regular intervals.

Otago did not hold anything back.

Both Black and Hayley Jensen returned and bowled out the remainder of their overs.

The Sparks still had 14 overs left to get through by the time they had finished. But they also only had two wickets left to capture.

Black had taken four and Loe (three for 20) helped finish Auckland off.

On Saturday the Sparks rolled Auckland for 125.

Black and Jensen picked up three wickets apiece.

The tally proved a little trickier than anticipated.

The Sparks lost early wickets, but Polly Inglis top scored with 40 in a damaging 76-run stand with Olivia Gain (36 not out) to help seal a four-wicket win.
