Bayly century sets up Kaikorai for big win

Kaikorai 292 for seven
beat Green Island 157

Kaikorai opener Rhys Bayly scored a century to help set up a 135-run win against Green Island at Sunnyvale on Saturday.

The promising right-hander’s innings of 103 from 94 deliveries formed the backbone of Kaikorai’s formidable total of 292 for seven.

Otago contracted all-rounder Josh Finnie chipped in with 30 and took four for 39 to help seal the win, while Otago leg spinner Michael Rippon had a strong match as well.

He whacked 66 from 75 balls and took two for 36 from 10 overs as Green Island collapsed to be all out for 157.

Veteran gloveman Ant Harris top-scored for Green Island, with 34, while spinner Mark Joyce was the pick of its Green Island bowlers, with three for 40.

North East Valley 254 for six
beat Albion 114

North East Valley opener Adam Miles missed out on a century but laid the groundwork for a 140-run win against Albion at Logan Park.

Miles played a patient knock for 93 and was on track to register three figures when he offered a catch in the 44th over.

He combined with fellow opener Will Kindley (46 from 50) in a partnership of 65, while Llew Johnson (39) and Sean Dykes (34 not out) kept the momentum going.

Josh Tasman-Jones got through a tidy 10 over spell with one for 37. But he failed to fire at the top of the batting order for Albion. Fellow opener Taylor Cumberland top-scored with 32 and Felix Page made 29. No-one else in the line-up threatened double figures and the innings came to a disappointing close on 114.

The wickets were shared around and Matthew Fisher and Hunter Kindley took three each.

Taieri 72
lost to Carisbrook-Dn 73 for five

Carisbrook-Dunedin medium pacer Steven Newey took five for 25 to help dismiss Taieri for a dismal 72 at Brooklands.

Spinner Ben Lockrose was the only Taieri batsman able to get into double figures. He laboured to 18 on the bowler-friendly surface.

While Newey took the bulk of the wickets, Richard Sillars and Patrick Arnold picked up two apiece.

Taieri did fight and managed to face 30.1 overs. Carisbrook-Dunedin knocked the target off in fewer than 10 overs but lost five wickets in the process.

Camden Hawkins, who scored 156 last weekend,  guided his side to victory with 31 not out from 18 deliveries.
