Albion pair demolish University-Grange early

Albion 281/7 beat University-Grange 77

Josh Tasman-Jones and Oscar Wilson combined in a 171-run stand for the second wicket to set up a huge win over University-Grange at Logan Park on Saturday.

Tasman-Jones stroked 100 off 126 balls — his second ton this season — and Wilson added 98 from 101 to help the Eagles post a formidable tally of 281 for seven.

Joe Smellie (21 off 17) and Jamie Glenn (26 off 21) chipped in, while Otago-contracted seamer Andrew Hazeldine was the best of the University-Grange bowlers.

He picked up four for 42 from 10 overs, but the damage had been already been done.

Tommy Clout made sure University-Grange’s chase came to an early end.

He nabbed six for 45 to help dismiss the University-Grange for just 77.

Venkat Kotte top-scored with 30 from 22, while Shiv Achary (17) was the only other University-Grange man to reach double figures.

According to the standings on the much-maligned PlayHQ, Albion’s win had lifted it into a share of second place in the Bing Harris competition.

Taieri 218 beat Green Island 118

Nick Kwant and Toby Hart shared the spotlight for Taieri in a 100-run win over Green Island at Brooklands Park.

Kwant struck 103 from 105 balls and Hart took five for 16 in an impressive bowling display.

Beckham Wheeler-Greenall made a decent contribution at the top as well with 45 from 38, while Hart chipped in with 26 to go with his five-wicket haul.

Taieri was bowled out in the last over for 218. Nick Parata grabbed three for 50, and Tony Cardno, Joel Meade and Jamie MacDonald all took two apiece for Green Island.

The Swamp Rats made a hash of the chase. They were four down for 23.

Opener Brad Kneebone hung in there with 39, and Jacob Gilbert scored 30.

But Hart had ripped out four quick wickets and returned to grab a five-wicket bag.

Last weekend, he nabbed six second-innings wickets for Otago Country on Hawke Cup debut.

CDK 115 lost to North East Valley 118/1

North East Valley cruised to a nine-wicket win over defending champion CDK at Bishopscourt.

Carisbrook-Dunedin/Kaikorai lost early wickets before Xavier Chisholm (29) and Jack Pryde (42) saved some blushes with a stand of 40 for the third wicket, but the resolve melted again once the partnership was broken.

The wickets were shared around. Otago seamer Travis Muller grabbed two for 14, while Oli White (three for 20) and Jacob Day (three for 22) took three apiece.

CDK was bowled out in the 24th over.

The Swans lost opener Hayden Johnston for a two-ball duck, but White (62 not out) and Otago top-order batter Thorn Parkes (36 not out) carried the team to victory in the 18th over.

White’s three-wicket bag and half-century must have got him a free beer or two following the early finish.

CDK gave up 20 extras during its short stint in the field which was not great.

Valley will go into the Christmas break at the top of the standings.
