Albion batsman Josh Tasman-Jones flayed a big century to help the Eagles overwhelm Taieri by 221 runs in the regional final of the national club cricket tournament at Tonga Park yesterday.

The right-hander played for Taieri last season but was in no mood to take it easy on his former team-mates. He swatted 10 fours and 10 sixes in his innings of 153 from 145 deliveries.

Tasman-Jones had solid support from Jack Harper (65) and the pair put on 145 for the third wicket.

By the time Taieri broke the partnership, Albion had 209 on the board and just over 12 overs remaining to capitalise.

Former Black Cap Nathan McCullum, who is off to Dubai to play in Pakistan’s domestic twenty20 competition, whacked three sixes in an undefeated 33-run cameo to help Albion reach a formidable 327 for seven.

McCullum, who lives in Auckland these days and has retired from international cricket, had a good day at the bowling crease as well. He snaffled two wickets in his opening over and finished with three for 32. Right-arm seamer Josh Cuttance accounted for three of the top five batsman as Taieri collapsed to be all out for 106.

Marcus Frost top-scored with 28. Riley Dixon resisted with 17, while Regan Flaws was the next-highest scorer with 14 not out and was arguably the pick of the Taieri bowlers. He did not take a wicket but bowled eight tight overs.

The win means Albion will represent the region at the national tournament in Auckland in April.
