The New Zealand women's team pursuit have won silver at the Commonwealth Games tonight.

The hosts eased to victory by 9.322 seconds, smashing the Games record with their winning time of 4min 15.214sec. 

The New Zealand team of of Rushlee Buchanan, Racquel Sheath, Bryony Botha and Kirstie James had to settle for a distant second, while Canada earlier dispatched England to claim bronze.

The Kiwis made the gold medal race after qualifying as the second fastest team.

The hosts lit up the track, posting a time of 4min 17.218sec, a Games record, and were over five seconds head of the Kiwis in qualifying.

The New Zealanders' spot in the finals came down to the wire, with Canada falling 0.1sec outside of the time posted by the Kiwis.
