A tall, lean and scientific boxer, the teenager is one of 24 boxers from the region contestingthe South Island Golden Gloves in Gore tomorrow.
Haley has had 14 bouts and has a record of eight wins and six losses.
Most of his defeats havecome against more experienced boxers, with the youngster struggling to find willing opponentsin his own age bracket.
He uses his speed, reach and ring craft to outpoint his rivals and has twice finished runner-up at the national championships in his age and weight group.
He also packs a decent punch, breaking the nose of experienced fighter Sloan Auckram at theSouthland championships last year.
The rivals have fought three times with Auckram leading the head-to-head battle 2-1. It ispossible they will met again this weekend for the fourth installment.
Kaitangata welterweight Jamie Dick (16), who represented Otago last year, is also expectedto be a leading contender in his division.
Two Queenstown fighters, light heavyweight Eddie Holstag (26) and welterweight MartinMech (29), and Dunedin bantamweight Cherine Henry (31) could also feature in title bouts.
Henry is the South Island featherweight champion and Mech was twice runner-up at theCzech Republic national amateur championships.
