Heavyweight boxer Shane Cameron is coming to Dunedin to help promote a kickboxing event at the Edgar Centre.
The Mountain Warrior, who will fight David "the Tuaminator" Tua in Hamilton on October 3, will take some precious time away from training for his much-anticipated bout to attend the June 27 fight night, event co-ordinator Cleveland Falanitule said.
`Shane Cameron is going to come down and make a special appearance to support the event," Falanitule said.
Cameron's trainer, Lolo Heimuli, is the Edgar Centre Kickboxing Club's chief instructor.
"He's the trainer of champions, they call him. He's trained Ray Sefo, Doug Viney and Jason Suttie. The list goes on.
"We take all our direction from him. When we need a bit of a spark we do some sessions with Lolo."
The event has been organised to raise funds for the Edgar Centre Kickboxing Club and 16-year-old Cleveland Falanitule jun, who has been selected in the New Zealand team to compete in a tournament in Thailand in November.
The first fight is planned for 7pm.
Falanitule said there would be eight to 10 bouts, including some Chinese boxing and a "novelty event".
"We are going to have four people in the ring, blindfolded, gloves on, for two 1min rounds. They do it over in Thailand and we thought we'd try it here. We've got quite a few willing participants."
The main fight is a super heavyweight kickboxing bout between Aucklander Mika Malefulu and Hamilton's Ricky Barclay.
