A late rally has lifted the South Pac Magic to yet another win.
This one they had to claw their way back for too.
They gave Varsity a 9-0 head start and needed a big fourth quarter to notch a 54-47 victory in women's club basketball on Tuesday.
The win was their fourth in a row, having not lost since week one.
Within that, they have shown their ability to win in different ways.
At times they have scored big and played quality basketball.
At times they have had to scrap and find a way over the line.
On Tuesday night, it was the latter.
Shanti Kara led the Magic with 16 points, while Tia Pavihi and Sereana Rokotakala grabbed 11 each, and Kiana Brown chipped in with 10.
Early it was Varsity duo Legacy Harrison (18 points) and Abby Harris (nine points) doing the damage though.
They shot out to a 9-0 lead, as the Magic offence struggled to click.
Harrison took advantage in transition, before Harris scored twice inside to give the students an early buffer.
The Magic called time-out and emerged with their first points seconds later, as Kara came off an on-ball screen and made a classy finish at the hoop.
While that set the Magic away, Varsity held the upper hand for the rest of the quarter.
They led 18-8, before a mini-run brought it back to 18-14 at the break.
The Magic found their groove to pull back even early in the second quarter.
However, an 8-0 run gave Varsity a 30-24 buffer midway through the quarter, Harrison adding another two baskets to her tally.
But again, the Magic responded.
They trailed 30-28 at halftime, a margin that did not alter by further than a point through a scrappy third quarter.
Harrison got to the hoop to make it 43-40 to open the fourth quarter.
Varsity scored only two more baskets from that point.
Kara hit a three-pointer, after a long scoreless period from both teams, to tie the scores.
Rokotakala followed by intercepting a pass and laying it in to take the lead.
Brown added one at the line, before hitting a three-pointer of her own.
That made it 49-43 with two minutes to go, giving them their first two-possession lead of the game in the process.
Harrison hit another floater to pull Varsity to within four, but Kara responded with a triple to make it 52-45, effectively icing the game for the Magic with just over a minute to play.
The night's other scheduled game, between Ajax and the Andy Bay Falcons, was deferred.
