By the time she had finished her run, Varsity had opened the lead that would propel it to victory.
Harrison’s early-third-quarter lay-up took Varsity to a 31-27 lead over the South Pac Magic.
She followed up with two triples and a three-point play, scoring 11 of Varsity’s points in a devastating 13-4 run.
That stretched the score to 42-31, paving way for a 78-51 win in women’s club basketball on Tuesday.
While Sarah-Joy Aruwa responded with a basket for the Magic, it was a shortlived reprieve.
Varsity took advantage of Harrison’s foundation, piling on a further 14-0 run to leave the Magic trailing 56-33 early in the fourth quarter.
Harrison, who finished with 19 points, contributed there too.
But Keira Hill, who was also influential throughout with 19 points, Caitlin O’Connell (11 points) and Leila Anesi (11 points) all came to the fore to bury the Magic.
Up until that point, the Magic had remained in the fight and looked a chance of claiming its first win of the season.
Varsity big Sophie Adams finished well around the hoop early, taking the students to an 18-8 lead.
But Magic’s own forward duo of Natalie Visger and Letitia Mullaly, who had 10 points each, helped drag the Magic back.
That closed the gap to 29-27 at halftime, before Harrison’s dominance early in the third quarter sparked Varsity to its winning run.
In the late game, Zoe Richards drained five three-pointers on the way to dropping 30 points on 12/15 shooting, as Ajax beat the Andy Bay Falcons 73-54.
Ajax held the Falcons without a field goal for nearly nine minutes in the second quarter, a run in which the score ballooned from 18-14, to 45-17.
Richards had 17 points during that run for Ajax, effectively taking the game away from the Falcons and extending Ajax’s winning streak to four games.
Brittany Richards led the Falcons with 19 points.
