Rebekah Greene has run her way into the New Zealand history books.

The Hill City-University athlete broke the New Zealand resident record when winning the national women’s mile title at the Cooks Classic at the weekend.

The 29-year-old finished third, behind Australian duo of Georgia Griffith (4min 30.26sec) and Sarah Billings (4min 32.30sec), in 4min 32.92sec, 0.62sec behind Billings.

Greene gave Billings, a former Australian 1500m national champion, a strong challenge on the Whanganui track.

Greene demolished her personal best set in 2014 by 5sec and broke the resident record of 4min 33.93sec set by Anne Audain 40 years ago.

Fellow Hill City athletes Fergus McLeay and Cameron Moffitt also took home an array of first and second placings.

McLeay won the men’s 100m in 10.73sec, 1sec off his personal best, and the 400m, in which he ran a personal best of 48.42sec.

Moffitt ran a personal best to claim silver in the men’s 400m in 55.48sec and also came second in the men’s long jump, with his best jump of 6.83m.

New Zealand secondary school representatives Bernice Cullen and Luke Moffitt also secured top-three finishes.

Moffitt was second in the men’s triple jump, finishing with 13.17m. He placed seventh in the men’s long jump.

Cullen jumped 5.33m in the women’s long jump to secure bronze.

Athletics Taieri’s Dyani Shepherd-Oates threw 52.55m to finished third in the women’s hammer throw.
